Piecing together the latest Historical Archives the Marine Corps Embassy Security Group. Highlighting the history of Marine Security Guards (Embassy Marines). In retirement, I'm finding it realy rewarding tracking down details of incidents and speaking with the Marines involved. This effort has spidered into filling many buckets of memories and information and struggling to display it all so that it is easily retrievable with a logical structure.
This is my 4th redraw of the Archives, previously standing them up as part of MEGA's initial Website when the founder Robert "Big Bob" Knienietz formed the Marine Embassy Guard Association. Back then we formed a good team of "PageMasters" who helped pull together information specific to MSG Detachments. Pagemasters were often fed tons of information from the research of a former DOS Secretary, Mary Tracy...who'd been stationed with Jim Tracy, a Detachment Commander. She'd spend 1000s of hours tracking down history, MSG names and tour information. PageMasters on the team included Joel Hakesly, Bud Carey, Kevin Jarvis, Steve Gonneville, Joe Mitchell, Stu Grant among others.
With a rewrite of the MEGA website, we lost the ability to display the Archives without a rewrite. A few attempts at plugging in a new version have failed and we're off to another journey. There is an overwhelming amount of information to be transferred, while at the same time researching other sources of history including the ongoing saga happening in realtime.
If we're successful in getting this beast up... I'm sincerely hoping a new crew of motivated Marines may grab a detachment and accept responsibility for reserching history, identifying MSGs who've served and helping to get it all displayed.
Semper Fi,
Jack
