Embassy evacuated / deactivated at the close of the Vietnam War.
1955
Vietnam became divided along the 17th parallel, becoming North Vietnam and South Vietnam. The United States maintained its Embassy in Saigon, Republic of Vietnam.

June 24: The United States Legation in Saigon was raised to Embassy status
1950
February 7: United States recognized the State of Viet Nam, with consulate in Saigon.
